LLM Jokes Arena ("the Arena", "we", "us") is an experiment in comparing how well large language models tell jokes. You give a topic, two anonymous models each write a joke, you pick the funnier one, and the models are revealed afterwards. Your votes build a public leaderboard.

By using the Arena you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1.Who may use it

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with a higher age of digital consent, you must be at least 16, or the minimum age in your country if it is higher.

The Arena is a personal project offered free of charge. There is no account, no login, and no payment.

2.Jokes are generated by AI, and we do not vouch for them

Every joke on this site is written by a third-party language model in response to a topic somebody typed in. Nobody reads them before you do.

That means jokes may be unfunny, wrong, nonsensical, offensive, in poor taste, or upsetting. They may repeat stereotypes or reproduce material the model learned elsewhere. They do not represent our views, and we do not endorse, verify, or take responsibility for them.

Do not rely on anything a model says here as factual, professional, medical, legal, or financial advice. It is a joke site.

3.What you may not do

Enter personal information about yourself or anyone else — real names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, account handles, ID numbers, health or financial details. Topics you type are stored and may be published, so treat the topic box as public.
Enter material you do not have the right to share, including someone else's copyrighted text.
Deliberately try to make models produce content that sexualises minors, incites violence, harasses a real identifiable person, or is otherwise unlawful.
Automate, script, scrape, or otherwise generate traffic that is not a person using the site, or try to evade the rate limits.
Vote dishonestly at scale in order to manipulate the leaderboard.
Attempt to break, overload, probe, or gain unauthorised access to the service or its infrastructure.

We may block access, discard votes, or remove content at our discretion, without notice, for any of the above.

4.Your contributions, and what we do with them

What you contribute. The topic you type, the options you choose (language, emoji), and the votes you cast.

You keep what you own. You retain any rights you already have in the topics you write. We claim no ownership of them.

The licence you give us. By using the Arena, you grant us a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid, transferable, and sub-licensable licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, publish, display, distribute, and commercially license your topics, options, votes, and the associated technical metadata described in our Privacy Policy, including as part of research datasets, benchmark reports, and derived statistics.

Please read this clearly: the whole point of the Arena is to build a public record of which jokes people found funnier. Your topics and votes are expected to be published, individually or in aggregate, and may be licensed to third parties, including commercially. We will make reasonable efforts to remove personal information before any bulk release, but we cannot guarantee we will catch everything — which is why we ask you not to type any.

No compensation. You will not be paid for contributions, and none is owed. No obligation to publish or keep. We may decline to publish, or later remove, anything, for any reason.

5.The jokes themselves, and third-party model terms

The jokes are produced by third-party models reached through OpenRouter. Each model carries its own provider's terms, which govern what may be done with its outputs. Several providers restrict using their outputs to train or improve other AI models.

We do not grant you any rights in model outputs beyond viewing, quoting, and sharing them on a personal, non-commercial basis with attribution to this site.
You must not use jokes obtained from this site to train, fine-tune, distil, or otherwise improve any AI model, unless the originating model's own licence permits it and you have satisfied yourself of that.
Any dataset we publish will state, per model, the licence terms we understand to apply, and will be released under licence terms consistent with them.

Under current US Copyright Office guidance, purely AI-generated text may not be protected by copyright at all. Nothing here should be read as us claiming a copyright in the model outputs; the restrictions above are contractual, and they flow from the providers, not from us.

6.Availability

The Arena runs on a small budget with hard spending caps. It may be slow, rate-limited, temporarily unavailable, or discontinued entirely, at any time, without notice. Models come and go from the pool without warning. Nothing here is a service commitment.

7.Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Arena is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill, or business, arising out of or related to your use of the Arena — whatever the theory of liability, and even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Arena will not exceed one hundred United States dollars (US$100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions; where that is so, they apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Arena.

8.Changes and governing law

We may change these Terms. Material changes will be signalled by updating the "Last updated" date, and where practical by a notice on the site. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Changes are not retroactive: contributions already made remain licensed under the terms in force when they were made, except that the licence above is by its nature irrevocable and survives.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California, except where your local consumer-protection law gives you a non-waivable right to sue elsewhere.
